“Women At Work” | Chyanne McDuffie (@YuppieByChyanne)

We’ve got ANOTHER amazing “Women at Work” feature this week!  Chyanne McDuffie owns one of my newest loves, TheYuppyLady.Com.

Chyanne McDuffie

She’s also the owner of Yuppie By Chyanne … which we’ll DEFINITELY be talking more about later!

I’ll just hush and let you read!

1. What is your dream job?

My absolute dream job is to be a boutique owner in Georgetown (Washington, D.C.). I love the history in that area and I’m from D.C. So why not start in my own city!

2. What industry is most of your work concentrated in?

Women’s fashion (ages 18-50). I say, ages 18-50 because I’m a firm believer in preparing for your future at a young age. I started working at 14, as an intern, at the D.C. Superior Court, and it was an eye opener experience for me. And since then I’ve been working non-stop. At the age of 18, a woman should be preparing for her future, and by that I mean networking.  And looking the part plays a good role in your career, no matter where you work. As for my sexy older woman, I like to show them ways to dress for success without looking like they’re older than they actually are. I want women of all ages and sizes to become their own style maven and to use their personal style as a way to speak to others without speaking. Trust me when I say, looking the part will get your that job or that promotion, but you have to own it and have confidence in yourself and that’s another aspect of my job that I take pride in. And that is helping women to be happy within themselves.

3. Got a side hustle?  How does it affect your daily schedule?

ohhh yes! I’m a stylist on the side and that takes up a lot of my time and on top of that, I’m a full-time Federal government employee. It’s a good thing I’m pretty good at multi-tasking. This is a must in my life. I’m juggling being a program manager, a stylist, remodeling my house, and planning a wedding. Ahhhh! My life is crazy, but I LOVE everyday of it. Just being a stylist involves a lot of running around, but it doesn’t bother me not one bit because I enjoy it and I luv luv to shop.

4. Discuss your path to where you are now in your career?  Has it been planned?  Were there unexpected turns?

Right now, I’m where I want to be. I’m building my clientele in the D.C. area and working on my plan to open an online shop. My online shop will open a new door for women who have a hard time finding work clothing.

I’m all about versatility and majority of the clothing I’ll have will transition easily from day to night. This is a must in my own closet because it saves me time and money.

5. What have you discovered about yourself along the journey?

I’m stronger, bolder, and more confident than I ever thought I was. I have no problem walking into a room filled with people I don’t know and getting to know just about all of them. I don’t stress over matters that are out of my control and I NEVER let anyone take a smile off my face.

6. If you knew in the beginning what you know now, would you have done anything differently?

Yes, I would’ve started sooner.

I was so focused on utilizing my degree in Government and Politics, that I lost focus of what I truly love to do. If I’d started sooner I could’ve had my first shop by now, but I have no regrets. I wouldn’t have met my fiancé and I wouldn’t have bought my first home. So I most diffidently don’t have any regrets.

7. Describe a day in your life.

Haha! Where do I start? I always say I need my own reality show because my life is so crazy and hectic. Let’s start with a day during the work week. I typically wake up at 6am and get to work by 7:30am; we government workers like to get to work early. After running around from meeting to meeting and working on my daily duties. I’m out of there by 4pm and the fun really begins. I rush home to get dinner started and take photos to post on my Facebook Fan page {link: https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Yuppie-by-Chyanne/194920717364} for the next day. After I take my pics, I than work on my blog while catching up on my business emails I may have missed while I was at work during the day.  If I have an event later on that night, I’m home for a few hours and I’m headed back to downtown D.C. Some days I’m able to squeeze in shopping, but I generally do that on the weekend. I squeeze a lot in on the weekends. From personal errands, spending time with my family, meeting up with clients, and shopping for clients.

So when I say, “I’m taking a vacay,” I’m really on vacay. But, I do check my emails because I have a business to run.

8. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years? 10 years?

In the next 5 years, I see myself running my online shop in my studio with at least 5 employees. Touring the U.S., giving speeches to young professional women and playing a big role with the “Dress for Success” team here in D.C. As for 10 years from now, I hope to have at least three shops open in the DMV (D.C., Maryland, and Virginia) area. Also, I wish to be able to expand throughout the U.S. during that time period.
