Natural Hair Care | My Personal Do’s and Dont’s

So … I know I don’t usually talk about hair too often … but people know that I’m a product whore connoisseur … so occasionally I get questions. ;-) This works for me … mainly because it means I don’t have to think of another amazing blog idea.  Your questions ARE amazing blog ideas!

QUESTION: I’ve just cut my hair and I need to know what to do with it?

I’m just getting used to the texture!

Answer: Never be afraid to experiment!  It might take a little moment to find the right process for you.  I don’t believe that there are hair products designed for “white hair” or “black hair” or “good hair” … I do believwe that there are good hair products, period.  There are also bad ones (these are pretty easy to identify because they tend to leave you wanting more in terms of … moisture an everything else you were hoping to get out of them).  There are also in-between products.  The “in-betweens” are a little harder to decide on … they may seem like they’re working for a while .. but never be afraid to say no if you find yourself becoming “over” them.

Below, you’ll find some things that have worked for me.

DISCLAIMER:  I would love to act as though my hair has once looked like this:

But in reality, it’s been more of a combo of this:

and this

EITHER WAY … HERE ARE THINGS THAT HAVE WORKED FOR ME!

*** ALL TIME FAVE: Coconut Milk Deep Conditioner:

1 whole avocado + 1 can of coconut milk + 1 lemon + 1 ***

2. Wen Cleansing Conditioner

3. Aussi Moist Products

4. Vitamin E-Oil (year round)

5. Coconut Oil (fall & winter)

6. Aloe Vera Gel … though I must admit … I use this for everything. EVERYTHING.

MY PROCESS

1. CO-WASH EVERY DAY (2x if i work out): What this means is that, yes, I wet my hair everyday.  I condition, then rinse.  If I work out in the evenings, I do the same.  When I had tons of hair, I’d co-wash at night, do a twist set and let it dry over night.

2. Wash with a clarifying shampoo once every two weeks: I use A LOT of product … every now and then, I need to let my hair and scalp breathe.

3. Deep condition EVERY WEEK (personal preference, you could do less if needed).

** I use aloe-vera gel and some type of oil on my hair EVERY DAY.  Moisture, water-based moisture, is really important to my personal hair maintenance.  Always has been. **
